French LORRAINE/BRETAGNE heraldic tin plate
Heraldry is usually associated with nobles, royal families and important organizations. Ancient tin plates have become common tableware and gifts for nobles and royal families to show their luxurious life and cultural taste.
The origins can be traced back to the medieval period, when the French nobility and royal family used heraldry as a family and personal symbol, used on stamp, coats of arms and family shields. They often have strong symbolic meaning, representing the identity, status and power of a family or an individual.
LORRAINE coat of arms (pictured right)
Lorraine is a historic principality in northeastern France. Historically, it was a territory that was contested between the Holy Roman Empire and France, and was not officially incorporated into France until the late 18th century.
The area is also an important tin production area, so the local tinware craftsmanship has developed very well. Old Lorraine pewter artifacts often feature intricate heraldry and decoration.
