This tea bowl was wheel thrown in my small workshop in northern Taiwan. I used Japanese red clay and then soda fired the piece for 14 hours. I used a Japanese porcelain slip to cover the still drying clay. I then used a toothed tool to create a some 'marks' on the pot. I live near the Yamingshan mountains and am influenced by their presence. I tried to create markings that resembled these mountains.
I applied an original glaze then produced a beautiful amber, black, and gold dust finish. During a soda firing many pots will fuse to the kiln shelf, rendering them unusable. This particular tea bowl came out unscathed. It is a special one.
