| WHY REBIRTH? |
When viewing exhibitions becomes a trend, the high frequency of curatorial activities in the city symbolizes the growth of Taiwan's cultural momentum every year. For each exhibition that only exists for 3-5 days, after the dismantling, where do the main visual outputs that symbolize the cultural landscape go? The incinerator? Isn't the main vision of an exhibition the brainchild of creative people? The REBIRTH project is about to give it a second life!
Since the passage of the Cultural and Creative Law in 2010, cultural activities across Taiwan have flourished, especially in Taipei City, with an average annual growth rate of 116% (from 340 in 2009 to 1,355 in 2019). Based on the total number of activities in venues under the jurisdiction of the Taipei Cultural and Creative Foundation, over the past 10 years, it has accumulated more than 4.7 Songyan Cultural and Creative Parks. And if calculated based on the cultural activities organized by the Ministry of Culture in Taiwan, the cultural output in the past 10 years has accumulated an area equivalent to 357 Songyan buildings. Does watching exhibitions also become fast fashion?!
"We are everyday classics. Through the "Rebirth--Recycled Canvas Reconstruction Project", we hope to make discarded canvases an invisible waste and a visible trend, so that the regeneration of canvases can also become a new wave of culture!"
