**The origin of the Aomori Nebuta Festival**
The Aomori Nebuta Festival (Japanese: Aomori ねぶた Matsuri / あおもりねぶたまつりAomori nebutamatsuri) is a lantern festival held in Aomori City, Aomori Prefecture, Japan in August every year, with more than 2 million tourists participating each year. During the festival, there will be more than 20 large-scale Nebuta lanterns made of paper, bamboo, and candles by hand by Nebuta masters with themes of Kabuki, history, and mythology. A huge human-shaped lantern called "Sandman". It is said that the Japanese pronunciation of "Nei (Chinese translation is sleepy, want to sleep)" is "NEMUTAI", and from this pronunciation, it is changed to "NEBUTA (meaning for the Sandman)". The height is about 5 meters and the width is about 9 meters. In the past, candles were used in lanterns, so it is also called the festival of fire. It was designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property in 1980.
