🌕 Creative Inspiration 🌕
In high school, when my mother was hospitalized, my sister and I stayed by her side day in and day out, shuttling between the hospital and home. One day at a convenience store, a kind older man said to my sister, “You share a special bond with Guanyin; you should visit the Grand Guanyin Pavilion in Tainan.” We were surprised by his sudden suggestion—but somehow his words stayed with us.
Later, we spent a day at the Grand Guanyin Pavilion. It was our first time entering that temple. Standing before the Guanyin Buddha, I felt an indescribable emotion. His solemn expression exuded an awe-inspiring distance, yet I sensed a similarity to my sister—calm and reserved on the surface but warm inside, comforting without us even realizing it. From then on, the pavilion became a place we occasionally visited, and each time our hearts felt much calmer.
Recently, my sister suggested I try creating a coffee blend inspired by Guanyin, in collaboration with her crystal brand. Intrigued, I began experimenting with different beans and roast methods, aiming to craft a coffee that conveyed tranquility and warmth. Initially, I selected two beans I liked and had my sister taste them, but she felt it needed more adjustment—reminding me to be meticulous and truly capture the feeling the coffee should evoke.
I then reworked the recipe repeatedly, testing various flavor combinations and enduring countless setbacks until one night, as I lay in bed pondering the perfect blend, an image of a figure in white with a gentle smile suddenly appeared in my mind. In that instant, my heart calmed, and inspiration struck—the coffee should carry hints of jasmine and lily: subtle, gentle, yet layered.
After final adjustments, I finally crafted a blend that earned nods from my sister and praise from others. Of course, the process involved many moments of kneeling and communing with the divine, as I sincerely cast divination sticks before naming it. Ultimately, I named it “Guanyin Buddha” (since Guanyin is also known as the White-clad Bodhisattva). This isn’t just a cup of coffee—it’s a feeling. I hope everyone who tastes it finds a moment of tranquility amid busy life, setting aside worries to experience warmth and happiness.
