Perfect Imperfection (手工缝制小本子－完美的缺陷）

As much as we aspire to make a perfect product sometimes certain materials or processes we adopt in making a product consists or creates imperfection. Many a times, we try to hide the flaws or sandpaper the out of norms. But...why should we conceal the true nature of the material? Why smooth out the edges when they are naturally rough? Does perfecting imperfections make one perfect? Or is imperfection, perfect on its own? To highlight this paradox we decided to incorporate this idea in this product. We have torn one edge of the paper by hand so that we can cruise our fingers over the paper fibres of the edge as we flip each page - the raw and unfurnished. On the same page there is also the smooth edge cut perfectly by machine. The paradox co-exists on every page. To take this paradox to another level, let's look at the physical vinyl record. This mass produced item plays perfectly when you first purchase it from the record store. However, did you know the very process of playing it on a vinyl record player leaves them less perfect objects? The little needle which cruises along the grooves of the vinyl record actually wears it over time. So...a perfect object has become imperfect because the sound produced may not be as crisp. But...at the same time this worn out vinyl record becomes unique - the minor scratches add something to each listen that no other copy has. Those scratches have turned a mass produced item into a singular personal unique object...now isn't that a perfect imperfection?
