Rokubei Moritsune HATA, who represents the third generation of the HATA family to make incense, began to incorporate the incense-making methods he learned while working at the Kyoto Imperial Palace. He tapped into the secret court tradition of mixing incense that had previously been the secret recipe of royalty only.
