There are two shapes: FUNDO / KOMAGATA
FUNDO bookends have the shape of Japanese old-style weights which were used for scaling silk or silver currency in the EDO period. FUNDO shape is still alive as a map symbol for banks today.
KOMAGATA is designed after the shape of the Japanese chess pieces, "koma."
The brass bookends are heavy in weight so that they can stably hold books.The bottom is lined with a felt so that it won't damage the surface on which the bookends are placed.
