This Kimono jacket ‘Scampi JKT’ is our original upcycled handmade product made from Japanese vintage Kimono. Super long sleeve like scampi and a relaxed loosen mandarin collar are our signature. We take off all the stitches of Kimono by hand to be one flat fabric, wash and iron the fabric, draw designs, sew to reborn the Kimono for UMUI. UMUI team designs and the sewing is in charge of Machiko(79), over 50 years experienced local seamstresses. Her wisdom and high skill are the key of UMUI collection. She wouldn’t want to waste both fabric and history of Japanese artisan work of Kimono. She has a warm respect for vintage works and former Kimono seamstresses. Each item has her ingenious works in various corners of the items such as sleeves, front inner, collars, the pattern matching, balances and patch working. Those tiny efforts to save the material is her speciality. UMUI’ gift wrapping/box/packaging are all recyclable materials We aim to be human+eco-friendly for this project.
