Recorded in a history of Japan dating from 799 A.D. Cotton production began in the Aichi region from at least that time in history. Around Mikawa town, the cotton textile industry flourished. In the Edo period, Cotton from the Mikawa area became fashionable in Edo (Old Tokyo and gained a reputation for softness and quality. During the Meji era, western technology was applied to the cleaning and weaving to create an even more spectacular fibers.
