"Daruma" 「だるま」 is a kind of decoration that imitates the meditation of Buddhism Zen. It is now a fortune beyond religion and sect.
Generally, there are two kinds of Daruma, one with eyes and one without eyes. Daruma with eyes can be used directly as a decoration, placed in the home or in the office, etc., as a lucky thing to attract blessings. Another type which has no eyes is to make a wish, and exam candidate often uses Daruma to help their test.
How to Make
Using the paint, fill the Daruma with the desired color and, after completion, leave it for not less than 12 hours to allow the paint to dry completely.
How to Use
First write your wishes on the back of the wood card, and draw a black eyeball for Daruma's "left eye", then use the rope to hang the wood card in the place you often see; when the wish is fulfilled, Daruma's "right eye" can be painted with a black eyeball.
※※ Japanese will return Daruma to the shrine to worship after the wish is fulfilled, and the temple will burn all the returned Daruma in January every year. Hong Kong does not have such a ritual that can to store up Daruma in the box.
