Butcher, the original creator of Precious Moments, was born in Jackson, Michigan on New Year's Day in 1939. He grew up in a poor family. When he was a child, Sam loved painting under the dining table. And his talent has long been recognized by his family and many friends. In his childhood, what Sam still remembers most are the Bible stories told to him by his mother-in-law. Although he is not very old, this really made him have a deep love for faith. He became very interested in the things he painted and looked for subjects for painting from the Bible. In 1974, Sam drew the first picture of Precious Moments, and in 1975, he officially presented Precious Moments to the world. Initially, Sam Butcher used his paintings of googly-eyed dolls to bring the slightest comfort to frustrated families. Because these delightful figures exude love, care and sharing, Sam Butcher calls them Precious Moments. In 1978, Enesco Chairman Eugene Freedman first saw Sam Butcher figures in a small series of greeting cards, and he considered the possibility of transforming these drawings into three-dimensional figures. So Eugene Freedman brought the greeting card to Japan to his friend and sculptor Yasuhei Fujioka.
