What is printmaking?
Printmaking is a collective term referring to the art works created by the traditional printing techniques. It has indirect and plural characteristics. If it is classified by printing principle, it can be divided into four major categories: letterpress, gravure, lithography and hole. Each edition can also be subdivided into a variety of different production techniques. In modern times, due to the development of computer technology, there is also a digital version of this classification.
What is the etching method?
Etching is the use of acid to etch metal layouts. By controlling the length of acid water soaking time, a plate making method with different shades of depression is produced on the plate. Usually, it is coated on the plate surface with Etching Ground, and then the anti-corrosion liquid on the pattern line is scraped off with a stylus pen. When the metal plate is soaked in the acid water during corrosion, the anti-corrosion liquid will protect the covered portion. This practice can result in very detailed lines.
What is the fine point corrosion method?
The traditional practice of Aquatint is to use turpentine powder or asphalt powder as the material of fine dots. Therefore, it is also called dust method. The production process is to uniformly distribute the dust spots on the metal plate surface, and then heat to make the dust melt and fix on the layout. The dust point on the fixed surface protects the metal plate from corrosion by acid water. Now there are also creators who use spray paint as a fine material. The use of spray paint eliminates the need for heating. The fine point method can exhibit a gradual shade of light according to the length of the etching time, and is often used in combination with an etching method, and is a technique commonly used for making a gravure.
