Fumo is the abbreviation for the Italian word Futurismo (Futurism in English). It is an artistic and social movement originated in Italy in the early 20th century. It emphasized speed, technology, youth and violence, the car, the airplane and the industrial city. The movement was practiced in every medium of art, including painting, sculpture, graphic design, urban design, theatre, film, fashion, literature, music and architecture. What the Futurists admired can still be found in contemporary culture, especially in metropolises such as New York, London, Paris and Shanghai.
